Ühiskonnateaduste instituut on kujunenud kompetentsikeskuseks, mille erialad ja teadustöö koonduvad kolme peamise teemaklastri ümber: ajakirjandus ja kommunikatsioon; sotsioloogia, sotsiaaltöö ja sotsiaalpoliitika ning infoteadused. Oleme sotsiaalteaduste valdkonna üks suuremaid instituute, teeme tihedat koostööd nii majandusteadlaste, haridusteadlaste, politoloogide, psühholoogidega kui ka teiste erialadega näiteks humaniora või realia valdkonnast. Meie väärtuseks on erialalise süvateadmise kõrval ka interdistsiplinaarsus ja teaduste ning õppekavade piirialadel tekkivad põnevad probleemid ehk ühtaegu nii sügavus kui ka mitmekesisus.
The Institute of Social Studies is a centre of competence in journalism, communication studies, social work, social policy, sociology and information sciences. Belonging to the Faculty of Social Sciences, our institute cooperates with many other fields (political science, psychology, education sciences, economics) of teaching and research within our home faculty as well as beyond. Our daily work is based both, the depth of discipline as well as a wider scope of collaboration which generates interesting new problems on the disciplinary borderlines.
