Title: Dataset of Estonian Nurses’ and Health Sciences Master’s Students’ Self-Perceived Patient Safety Competencies: H-PEPSS Questionnaire

General Introduction: This dataset contains responses to the Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS) questionnaire, along with background questions.
The sample included all nurses working in Estonia, as well as Master’s students in health sciences (nursing) from the University of Tartu and Master’s students in health sciences (nursing and midwifery) from Tallinn and Tartu Health Care Colleges. 
The data were collected via an online survey conducted between May and September 2023, as part of L.Mägi PhD Thesis project.
The dataset is intended to support research on patient safety competencies and is made publicly available for scientific reuse under a CC BY 4.0 license.
The H-PEPSS questionnaire was translated and adapted into Estonian with permission from the original author, Dr. Liane Ginsburg.
The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Tartu no.376/T-7.

Purpose of the Data Collection: The purpose of this survey was to assess self-perceived patient safety competencies among Estonian nurses and health sciences Master’s students. 
The results can be used to inform educational strategies and improve patient safety training, aand support both national and international comparative research.

2. Methodological Information
- Instrument Used: Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey (H-PEPSS) (Ginsburg et al. 2012)
- Scale: 5-point Likert scale (0 = I don't know, 1 = strongly disagree, ..., 5 = strongly agree)
- Data Collection Method: Online survey
- Collection Period: May–September 2023
- Software Used: Data collected via online survey platform RedCap; processed using Microsoft Excel
- Missing Data:  Missing responses are represented by blank fields in the dataset

3. Description of the Data Files:
- H-PEPSS_dataset_Estonia_2023.xlsx: 
	sheet 1 (dataset):Contains anonymized responses to the H-PEPSS questionnaire and background variables.
	sheet 2 (coding):Provides labels and coding for each variable. The item labels have been shortened by the dataset authors.
