***General Introduction***

This dataset contains a summary of the results of an online survey exploring the opinions of hobbyists and heritage professionals on the current state of metal detecting in Estonia. The survey was conducted between September and October 2023 and was completed by 22 archaeologists and 152 hobby metal detectorists. The dataset is supplementary data for the publication Kurisoo, T. & Smirnova. M. In print. ***Purpose of the data collection***

The study will also help to understand the concerns of each target group and identify areas for improvement. This information will also be valuable in evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of the Estonian approach on a broader scale.

The dataset was created in the frame of the project “Metal-detected past: a study of long-term developments in settlement patterns, technology and visual culture on the example of metal-detector finds from Estonia" funded by the European Commission, Grant Agreement ID: 101003387.
