*** Dataset of the archaeozoological record of the Asva Late Bronze Age site, Saaremaa Island, Estonia ***

*** General Introduction ***

This dataset contains data obtained during the taxonomical and anatomical identification of animal bones collected from the archaeological excavations of Asva site in 1939, 1965, 1966, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2020. The dataset consists of 7 tables and photographs. Data in this dataset were collected at the Tallinn University and the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals, Polish Academy of Sciences, in Krakow during the period of 2013-2019.


*** Purpose of the data collection ***

The purpose of the data collection was to obtain precise information on the animal remains excavated from the Asva site in different years, through which the consumption habits of the inhabitants of the Asva settlement at the Late Bronze Age can be assessed.
All data are inserted into the Estonian archaeology database ArhIS and are visible by the ARHEST dataset (https://andmekogud.arheoloogia.ee). 
This dataset was created in the frame of following projects:

The dataset consists of three files:

'Asva 2012 mammals.xlsx' – a table file that contains the data of identified mammal bones found from the excavation area G in 2012
'Asva 2013 mammals.xlsX' – a table file that contains the data of identified mammal bones found from the excavation area G in 2013
