Title of the dataset: Integrated high-resolution dataset of Estonian precipitation 2018-2019 ---INTRODUCTION--- The dataset contains precipitation data interpolated to a regular grid over Estonia. Data is from May to August for the years 2018 to 2019. File format is NetCDF4 format (.nc). Dataset consists of two files: SUR18_3h_b0.nc and SUR19_3h_b0.nc, which contain 3-hour precipitation fields over Estonia for the years 2018 and 2019 respectively. This dataset was created as a part of project RITA1/02-52 "Use of remote sensing data for elaboration and development of public services (1.01.2019−31.12.2020)". Contact information: jorma.rahu@ut.ee ---METHODOLOGICAL AND DATA SPECIFIC INFORMATION--- Weather radar gives a good spatial representation of precipitation data but poor quantitative estimation. From the other side, ground-based rain gauge measurements give reliable quantitative results but lack spatial representativeness. Therefore, these two datasets were merged using the Mean Field Bias method. Radar data are from Sürgavere radar and gauge data from 36 (2018) and 35 (2019) meteorological stations of the Estonian Environment Agency. Detailed description regarding the datasets, processing methods and thorough analysis can be found http://dx.doi.org/10.23673/re-257 (in Estonian). Filename format: SURYY_3h.nc, where: SUR means radar name acronym (Sürgavere radar); YY - year with last two digits (18 for 2018, 19 for 2019); 3h - the accumulation period used throughout the files; .nc - NetCDF filename extension. The timestamp for each timestep represents the precipitation accumulation period of 3 hours before the timestamp, the timestamp time itself is excluded from the accumulation. For example, hours 09.00 means the period from 06.00 - 08.59, the label 09.00 is not included in this period. Timestamps are in UTC. The unit for data is mm/3h - millimeters per three hour period. Missing data is denoted by -999.0. The data is interpolated to a regular geographical grid with WGS84 (EPSG: 4326) projection. Spatial resolution is 1 km in both x and y direction. The grid extends from 21.5896 degrees to 28.3712 degrees in longitude (393 steps, where each step is 0.0173 degrees) and from 57.4327 degrees to 59.9035 degrees in latitude (285 steps, where each step is 0.0087 degrees). ---SHARING AND ACCESS INFORMATION--- The data is shared under Creative Commons 4.0 licence.
