*** General Introduction ***

This dataset contains data obtained during the identification of animal bones and plant remains collected from the archaeological excavations of Haapsalu Castle Watchtower shaft lead by Jaak Mäll in 2017. The dataset consists of a table and a report of the identification results, which describes the methodologies and contains summaries of the data. Data in this dataset were collected at the universities of Tallinn and Tartu in 2019.


*** Purpose of the data collection ***

The purpose of the data collection was to get an overview of the animal and plant remains thrown into the shaft of the Haapsalu Castle tower between 1580 and 1650 AD, through which the consumption habits of the inhabitants of the fortress at that time can be assessed.

*** Description of the data in this dataset ***

The dataset consists of three files: 
'README.txt' - this file
'Loomaluud_Haapsalu_linnus_2017.xlsx' – a table file that contains the data of animal (mammals, birds, fish) bone identifications
'Aruanne_Haapsalu_linnus_2017.pdf' – a text that contains the report on the results of archaeozoological and –botanical analyses (in Estonian)
